Alexa Destiny 2 Ghost Skill
Destiny is an expansive first-person action shooter in which players fly around the solar system protecting the last remnants of humanity. In Destiny, you have a personal assistant 'Ghost' - an artificial intelligence that tells you who everyone is, what's going on and how you'll get there. Our idea was to bring 'Ghost' to life into the connected home, innovating and enhancing the Destiny 2 experience. The Ghost Skill creates a better, more seamless experience for gamers and shows the power of integrating intelligent voice controls into video games in a thoughtful and useful way. It's the first of its kind and the most innovative and immersive gaming experience to date on Alexa.
Players can ask lore-related questions like “Alexa, ask Ghost who are the Red Legion” or, for recommendations on in-game activities, “Alexa, ask Ghost what I should do next.” Players will be able to save up to four loadouts for their character based on specific activities, then ask Alexa to equip them while they’re in orbit or in a social space. If you want to coordinate with clan members to raid or play with, Ghost can help spread the word. Use Ghost to see who’s online or find out about your clan level and rewards. You can also ask Ghost to send a message to clan mates that will be sent to them directly through the Destiny 2 Companion App and Bungie.net. The skill is available now for Alexa customers to enable, free of charge, through the Alexa app.

CUSTOMER INSIGHTS & IDEATION
There were third-party apps created that had similar features but were super complex-some having the user play with a laptop next to them. We wanted to tap into voice UI to make it easier to: switch out loadouts, see whats next, talk to fellow clan members, and more.
EXPERIENCE STRATEGY & VISION
We wanted to create a product where all types of players can utilize Ghost - from the newbie to the master. Utilize the in-game AI to bring it to life in your home.
OVERSIGHT & COORDINATION
I worked close with a copywriter, developers and partnered up the writers at Pullstring on the production of the Alexa Skill and Ghost Device.
The biggest challenge when it came to the Ghost and Alexa skill was the logistics needed to work seamlessly. We had to do constant user-testing for utterance building, since there are so many ways to say the same thing. There were limitations on how many sound files that could be sent to Ghost and Alexa at a time. So, copy had to be articulated properly for Nolan North to record the sound files for productions. We had to simplify some some of the utterances because they would be difficult on the backend to understand what the user was trying to ask. It was a challenge to think of UX in a way that isn't tangible (i.e. user interface).
It was a fast-paced environment because the team had 3 months to deliver this by Black Friday pre-sale.

HOW WE GOT HERE
We had to understand limitations of the Amazon Echo's back-end in order to make sense of the front-end. We also looked at the types of players that would use this and made it applicable for all. We created decision maps/spec sheets, which helped aid development and copy to build the proper responses. Below are some of the processes it took to see the "completed" product come to life.
An experience with newer players front of mind; helping them progress through the game and get into the social fabric of the game. However, we still plan to keep core players engaged with functionality that evolves in line with gameplay.
Destiny is an open-world map that leaves a lot to the user. It's been known that Destiny has a huge learning curve— easy to pick up, hard to master. The newbie needs guidance because they don't necessarily know what the next task is suppose to be. However, they enjoy exploring the game and are hungry to learn more.
The Lone Wolf
The Lone Wolf is seasoned veteran; this isn't their first rodeo. They know the game really well, however they tend to plateau in Destiny because they tend to do missions alone. They explore the Destiny Universe, but sometimes it's best to do so in a group. They are ideal gamer, but they need that extra push to influence them to join a group.
The Mentor & Storyteller
The Mentor/Storyteller are similar to the Lone Wolf. What seperate them from the others is that they try to reach out to help both the newbie and the lone wolf. They know the "ins-and-outs" of the game and tend to be interested in the lore of the game. They play the game often, but also want more background story of the characters and locations.
